Conference Location

The first Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues (APA Division 45) Conference will be held June 17-19, 2010 on the central campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Both conference and registration will be held at the Michigan League, 911 North University Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48109. Registration fees include admissions to all sessions, coffee breaks, receptions, and lunches.

All sessions will be held in the Michigan League and the Rackham School of Graduate Studies. A walking map of central campus, nearby hotels and the Palmer Visitor parking structure can be found here.



Transportation

AIR TRANSPORTATION
The airport you want to fly in to is Detroit Metropolitan Airport which is 30 miles east of Ann Arbor. INTERCITY RAIL TRANSPORTATION
Ann Arbor has an AMTRAK railway station located on the main line between Detroit and Chicago. A train from Chicago takes roughly four hours. Canadians can take a train to the VIA station in Windsor, Ontario and then take a cab to the Detroit Amtrak station. The cab driver will charge you an additional flat fee to go through the tunnel under the river. If you are on a budget, then another possibility is to take a cab from the Windsor VIA railway station to a bus stop run by the Detroit Windsor Tunnel Bus Corporation. ( http://dwtunnel.com/bus.html ). Once across in the U.S., you can then take another cab to the Detroit Amtrak station. You will need your passport to cross the border and go through customs.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE NORTH:
U.S. 23 South to Exit 45, M-14 West
Exit 3, 'Ann Arbor' (you will now be on Main Street)
Main Street to Huron Street
Turn left (East) onto Huron Street
Proceed East on Huron Street. Huron street becomes Washtenaw Avenue
Turn right onto Palmer Drive (100 yards past Huron/Washtenaw curve)
Parking structure has 2 entrances on left side of Palmer Drive: First is for UM faculty and staff, second is for visitors, UM faculty and staff (100 yards further on Palmer Drive).

DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH:
U.S. 23 North to Exit 37B, Washtenaw Avenue West
Washtenaw Avenue West to Palmer Drive
Turn left onto Palmer Drive

Parking

Visitor parking on campus is available at Palmer Drive Parking Structure:
Parking structure has 2 entrances on left side of Palmer Drive: First is for UM faculty and staff, second is for visitors, UM faculty and staff (100 yards further on Palmer Drive).

Visitor parking is staffed from 6am – 10pm, Monday thru Saturday.
The cost to park is approximately $1.25 per hour.

Parking is available in Ann Arbor City Parking structures for approximately $1.20 per hour in city-owned parking structures. The suggested structures are:

Maynard Street Public Parking:
Located on Maynard Street between E. William and E. Liberty with an additional entrance off Thompson between E. Liberty and E. William.

Liberty Square Public Parking:
Located on Washington Street between Division and State Streets

S. Forest Public Parking
Located on S. Forest Street between S. University and Willard Streets

Parking is not available in University of Michigan staff parking structures. Parking in downtown Ann Arbor and on the University of Michigan campus is very limited. Public safety officials and Parking officials are diligent in issuing tickets to improperly parked vehicles, and retrieving a car that is towed can cost several hundred dollars. Any tickets you receive are your responsibility.

Weather

The days are pleasant and the nights are cool with temperatures for the month of June ranging from an average high of 72 degrees Fahrenheit to an average low of 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Remember these are averages, so the temperatures for June may be warmer or cooler by 10 degrees or so. Be sure to bring clothes for all occasions.
