Call for Proposals : The Deadline for the Call for Proposals has Passed
Overview | Research Symposium Proposal | Panel Discussion Proposal | Workshops Proposal | Individual Paper Presentation | Poster Presentation Proposal

There are five ways for participants to present at the conference. Research symposia (100 minutes) consist of 3-4 stand alone research papers around a central unifying interest. Proposals may or may not include a discussant to provide summative remarks. Panel discussions (100 minutes) consist of 3-5 participants who have unique and important perspectives on a topic important to the psychological study of ethnic minority issues. The emphasis is on interactive discussion among the panelists as well as the audience. Panel discussions should include a moderator. Workshops (100 minutes) consist of one or more facilitators who will provide an interactive experience designed to tangibly enhance the knowledge base and/or professional development of psychologists. Finally, individual participants will also have the opportunity to present their research findings in one of two ways either an individual paper presentation or as a poster. Individual papers (15 minutes) will be bundle together with other papers addressing a similar topic to form a research symposium. Authors should take care to ensure that their presentation will not exceed the 15 minute time limit. Posters will be grouped according to their research theme.
All presentation proposals are due February 12, 2012 at 11:59 EST.
Participants will be notified by March 9, 2012 as to whether their proposals have been accepted.
Research Symposium
A symposium shall consist of a chair who will provide a brief introduction to the theme of the symposia, followed by 3 or 4 presenters. Each presenter should be presenting independent research findings that are related to the theme of the symposia. The symposia may or may not end with a discussant. The total time allotted for each symposium is 100 minutes with at least 20 minutes set aside for audience questions. It is the chair’s responsibility to notify all participants of the date and time of the presentation and ensure that all participants attend the conference. All presenters MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include an overall title for the symposium (130 character limit) as well as a summative abstract for the symposium (250 word limit). Each panelist will provide a few brief introductory remarks. The moderator will then lead a discussion among the panelists. Throughout the panel there should be significant opportunity for the audience to engage in discussion among the panelists. The total time allotted for each Panel Discussion is 100 minutes with at least 50 minutes set aside for interaction with the audience. It is the chair’s responsibility to notify all participants of the date and time of the presentation and ensure that all participants attend the conference. All panelists MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include an overall title for the Panel Discussion (130 character limit) as well as a summative abstract for the panel discussion (500 word limit). The summative abstract should include: the topics to be discussed and their relevance to ethnic minority issues; a description of the panelist and their relevance to the topic that will be discussed; sample questions; and a plan for including audience participation.
Workshops
Workshops shall consist of one or more workshop facilitators. If there is more than one facilitator, then one individual must be designated as the lead facilitator. The workshop should be interactive and provide opportunity for audience participation. The total time allotted for each workshop is 100 minutes. All facilitators MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include an overall title for the Workshop (130 character limit) as well as a summative abstract (500 word limit). The summative abstract should include: the topics to be discussed and their relevance to ethnic minority issues; a description of the facilitators and their expertise relative to the workshop topics; and 3-5 learning objectives.
Individual Paper Presentation
An individual paper presentation provides the opportunity for presenters to present their research within a research symposium without having to organize the entire symposium. Presenters will delineate the subject headings that best describe the research. These subject headings will be used to group 3-4 papers together into a coherent research symposium around a particular topic. Each presenter will have no more than 15 minutes to present to provide the audience with adequate time for questions and discussions. Presenters will also be given the opportunity to delineate whether they would be willing to present their paper as a poster if it is accepted but not assigned to a symposium. All presenters MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include a title for the poster (130 character limit) as well as an abstract for the paper (500 page limit).
Poster Presentation
A poster presentation provides the opportunity for presenters to share research findings related to the psychological study of ethnic minority issues with as many summit attendees as possible. The Poster session allows presenters and attendees to engage in extended discussions about the author’s presentation that is in illustrated format on a poster board. Each poster must fit on one poster board. Posters will be grouped by theme whenever possible. All presenters MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include a title for the poster (130 character limit) as well as an abstract for the poster (500 page limit).
