PRE-CONFERENCE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FOR ETHNIC MINORITY GRADUATE STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER PROFESSIONALS
There will be a preconference program for ethnic minority graduate students and early career professionals from 9:00 to 4:00 on Thursday, June 17, 2010. The preconference program will provide professional development opportunities targeted specifically for ethnic minority graduate students and early career professionals. There will be separate programs for graduate students and early career professionals. The graduate student program is geared towards ethnic minority graduate students in masters and doctoral programs in psychology and psychology-related fields. The program for early career professionals is geared toward ethnic minority psychologists who are within 10 years from receiving their doctoral degrees and focused on topics relevant to individuals who hold positions inside and outside of academia.
In both instances, the programs will feature presentations, discussions, and workshops from leading experts in the field and will provide significant time for audience interaction. All sessions will be geared specifically to many of the issues specifically relevant to ethnic minority graduate students and early career professionals. Topics that will be addressed include:

- Developing an effective mentoring relationship
- Maintaining a healthy balance in one’s life
- Career Opportunities outside of academia
Early Career Professionals
- Strategies for thriving on the tenure track
- Grant writing
- Funding Opportunities
- Strategies for publishing your research
- Strategies for developing a successful practice and/or consulting business

Only a limited number of slots are available, so participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible. All participants in the pre-conference must also register for the conference.
